Campus Development: 2017 Major Project Update

Posted 28 February 2017

A number of major projects are currently under way, particularly on the lower campus. Facilities Management has a coordinated approach to manage the projects in this area and will work cooperatively to manage stakeholder engagement, pedestrian safety, traffic management, disruptions and other construction activities.

Biosciences Building

Construction activities for the new building will continue until September 2017. It is expected that occupants will commence moving in from April and teaching in the world-class laboratories will commence from Semester 2. The refurbishment on the lower ground floor of the Bio Link will take place between May – September 2017. There will be no access to this area during this time.

The enabling works for Stage 2 of the project, to refurbish the existing Biological Sciences Building, will commence from April 2017. The main works are scheduled to commence from September 2017 and continue to early 2019.

Electrical Engineering Building

AW Edwards were appointed as the builder for the Electrical Engineering Building late last year. Site establishment fencing has been erected along College Road near the Quadrangle Building and construction works have commenced in the North wing. The final decants from the North Wing are almost complete, with most laboratories now moved to the South Wing.

Science and Engineering Building

Enabling works for the new Science and Engineering building were completed in January, including demolition of the old School of Materials Science building (E8) and other nearby structures. Initial excavation work on the lower campus construction site commenced in mid-February. The new building is expected to be completed in 2019.

The Roundhouse Refurbishment

The refurbishment is now well under way, with demolition of the structures that were added on to the original Roundhouse completed in early February. The Roundhouse has now been brought back to the iconic original ‘round.’ Internal strip-out, site remediation and refits will continue throughout the year, with the beloved venue expected to open for trading in December 2017.
