Campus development update: September 2017

Biological Sciences Precinct

  • Teaching in the new teaching laboratories on the Ground Floor and Level 1 of E26 commenced at the beginning of Session 2, in July 2017.
  • Minor refurbishment within the Bio Link wing has been completed.
  • New internal corridors within the Biosciences Building have been created to enable movement between the new Biosciences Building and the Bio Link wing.
  • Planning and design for the refurbishment of the existing D26 Biological Sciences Building is well advanced.  The Development Application was approved by the Department of Planning and Environment in April 2017. Existing occupants have been moved to the Bio Link wing and to the Samuels Building. Site establishment including hoardings and scaffolding is well advanced.
  • Below ground services replacement, in front of the building, is under way.
  • The main construction activities, including demolition, commence this month.
  • It is expected that construction will be complete by early 2019.

 

Cliffbrook Renewal

  • The development application for the renewal of the Cliffbrook Campus was submitted to the Planning & Environment Department on Tuesday 9 May 2017.
  • The plans went on public exhibition at the Department of Planning & Environment website. Neighbours and other interested stakeholders had the opportunity to make a formal written submission, and these submissions are now being considered.

 

Electrical Engineering Building Renewal

    • Extension of the lift lobby floor works are continuing. This includes noisy works to prepare the existing structure to receive the new floor slab. Where possible, the noisy works will be scheduled out of hours.
    • Fit out works have commenced and will continue for the next few months on all floors.
    • Works in the area between Nura Gili and Rex Vowels to reconfigure the toilets and pump room will continue over the coming months.
    • The L5 plantroom construction has commenced and will continue for the next few months.
    • Window removal is complete and installation of the new windows commenced in late September.
    • Inground services on the ground floor are nearing completion.

 

Roundhouse Redevelopment

    • The kitchen high-level rough-in works are progressing well and the cool rooms have been installed.
    • Roof rectification works are on-going (box gutters refurbishment nearing completion).
    • In-ceiling services rough-in works are nearing completion – sprinklers, mechanical and electrical wiring.
    • Central spine bird cage scaffold has been erected with extensive acoustic ceilings to be installed.
    • Plantroom equipment is being installed.
    • Fit out works have commenced – walls, ceilings and bathrooms.
    • The façade aluminium and glass is on site and currently being installed.
    • The redevelopment is due for completion by February 2018.

 

Science and Engineering Building

  • Main construction works commenced in late April 2017.
  • Bulk excavation and tower crane operations are ongoing.
  • Inground hydraulic works are under way.
  • Work for the concrete slab on the ground has commenced.
  • The project is due for completion in 2019.
