Concession Opal Card

Posted 18 December 2014

What is happening?

The Concession Opal card is now available for eligible full-time students at UNSW.

How does this affect me?

The Concession Opal card will replace the previous system of foils attached to your student card, though foils will still be available for students travelling outside the area covered by the Opal scheme.

How do I apply?

Step 1

  • You will be required to give your consent for UNSW to provide details of your eligibility to Transport for NSW before you apply for your Concession Opal card.
  • Eligible students can provide their consent through myUNSW – please see the Concession Opal card link in the Online Services section of the My Student Profile tab.
  • Please allow two business days for your information to reach Transport for NSW before you move on to Step 2.

Step 2

Apply for your Concession Opal card by visiting or calling 13 67 25 (13 OPAL).

Ensure that you have your student enrolment information to hand when applying and please enter your details, especially your name, exactly as they appear on your UNSW record.

Step 3

Your card will be posted to your mailing address (5-7 days after your application is completed). Activate your card when it arrives.
