Services during the UNSW Shutdown

Estate Management has been working with the Faculties and Divisions on ways to streamline the building access process and services available during the UNSW shutdown period (23 December 2019 to 6 January 2020) in line with our Sustainability goals.

Buildings on campus will be in either 'lockdown' or 'secure' mode during the UNSW shutdown period. 

For buildings in lockdown mode, which will commence from 11pm Monday 23 December 2019, access will be limited to security staff only. There will be no access to the building for students and staff to these buildings. 

For buildings in secure mode, which will commence from 6pm Monday 23 December 2019, access will be limited to students and staff who currently have 24/7 access. For access, you'll need your ID card.

Services Available during Shutdown period

During the shutdown, air conditioning is provided for business-critical requirements.

For buildings in lockdown mode, there will be no air conditioning.

For buildings in secure mode, standalone systems will operate as normal. All other units will operate on after hours mode which will require push button activation.

There will be a full clean for all buildings at the start of the shutdown period.

For buildings in lockdown mode, there will be no cleaning services during shutdown.

For buildings in secure mode, kitchen areas and bathrooms will be cleaned daily.

If you are a designated emergency contact (after hours) within your Faculty/School or Division/Business Unit, please ensure you update your EM Business Partner with your contact information prior to the shutdown period.

If any emergency contacts are not available during the shutdown period, please supply your EM Business Partner with alternate contact information prior to the shutdown period.

Grounds contractors will be on campus throughout the shutdown period, except for public holidays.

The Estate Management help desk phone number 02 9385 5111 will continue to operate 24/7 during the UNSW shutdown.

Any emails sent to estate@unsw.edu.au will be responded to when the University re-opens on Monday 6 January 2020.

For buildings in lockdown mode, lights will be switched off.

For buildings in secure mode, lights will need to be switched on manually.

As the mailroom will be closed during the shutdown period and reopen on Monday 6 January 2019.

For mail that needs to be sent out, please have your last post collection ready on Friday 20 December.

All mail received over the shutdown period will be held by the Australia Post outlet on campus.

Relocations are available if arranged with General Services, with an Archibus request submitted no later than Friday 13 December 2019. There are currently no relocations booked in during the shutdown period.

UNSW Security Services will continue to operate 24/7 throughout the shutdown period. For assistance during this time please call 9385 6000 or in an emergency, please call 9385 6666.

The Security & Traffic Management counter on Level 2 Mathews Building will close 1pm Monday 23 December and re-open 8am Monday 6 January 2020.

There will be waste collection for all buildings at the start of the shutdown period.

For buildings in lockdown mode, there will be no waste collection during shutdown.

For buildings in secure mode, office bins will be emptied twice a week.

General waste collection will continue as normal, weekends and public holidays are excluded.

Paper waste will be collected from high volume areas on Saturday 21 December and Saturday 28 December.

Hazardous waste collection is not scheduled during the shutdown period unless specifically requested as urgent. The last scheduled chemical waste collection for 2019 is Thursday 19 December. Biological waste will be collected from the Bio-dock waste room only during the shutdown, excluding public holidays.

Permanent skip bins will be serviced as normal, weekends and public holidays are excluded.
